Random has re-signed for this year's 2012 sponsorship of the Women's Canberra Capitals Academy Basketball team - following the successful 2011 competition in which the team were the ultimate Premiers.
The Capitals Academy team is part of Basketball ACT’s Elite Senior Teams Program
and is a feeder team to the Canberra Capitals Women’s National Basketball League
team (WNBL).
Following an outstanding season in the 2011 Waratah League, which saw the
Canberra Nationals team win the Championship, the renamed Capitals Academy team
will compete in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) in 2012.
The SEABL competition is one of Australia’s longest running and most prestigious
basketball competitions, which includes teams from the ACT, NSW, Victoria,
Tasmania and Queensland.
The 2012 Capitals Academy team will be led by highly experienced and talented
players Kellie Abrams, Michaela Dalgleish and Molly Lewis, all of whom are well
entrenched and respected members of the local community.
With experienced Coach Sandy Tomley at the helm and an ingrained culture of
success, the team will be aiming to continue their outstanding achievements to date.
The 2012 SEABL season commences in mid March and concludes in mid August with
the finals series finishing in early September. The Capitals Academy team plays its
home matches at 5.30pm on Saturday nights at the Belconnen Basketball Stadium
and all matches are “double headers” with the team’s male counterparts, the Canberra
Gunners playing at 7.30pm.
The Capitals Academy basketball program offers all of the hallmarks which see
basketball continue to be one of the top sports played across the country – from a
comfortable, indoor and family friendly sporting experience with an up close and
personal viewing opportunity for supporters!
